House Lupambo is situated in the south of Johannesburg. It is built on top of a rocky outcrop. The idea was to respect the rock by elevating the house on a steel structure under which one can enjoy private views of the sunset on the horizon.
The house plan layout is different. The ground floor features the bedrooms, while the top floor has been left open plan for the kitchen and living areas in order to enjoy the views at its most.
The steel roof is elevated over the walls, allowing for natural perimeter lighting into the living areas. The landscape was left indigenous, and only plants that had been originally on the site were brought in such as aloes.
