House Jordaan is a steel frame structure perched on the rocky ledge of the Kransberg Nature Reserve overlooking the valley below. The elevated pool forms the edge between the house, its terrace and the seemingly infinite mountain gorge and skies.
The idea of using a steel structure was in order to avoid foundations which would have defaced the rock. This way only bolted steel plates resting onto the rock surface were used, with no excavations, in order to preserve the rock face below.
The layout is rectilinear with the main house living areas, the main bedroom, cottages, and guest room all connected externally through a suspended wooden deck. The main house living area, the guest room and main bedroom are also connected through “floating” glass and steel bridges.
