Kalk Bay Art House

This project is situated in Kalk Bay, cape Town, and it is the addition of a modern wing to a heritage protected 112 year old house designed by William James Delbridge circa 1909.

The addition was conceived as a modern structure that independently emanates from the back of the existing building without detracting from the original house.

Aesthetically the top floor, that houses the master bedroom suite, is cladded with white Rheinzink sheeting that wraps around its roof and walls. Openings allow for natural light and ventilation overlooking the existing vegetation on the hillside. The bottom floor opens up to an existing courtyard creating a private entertainment area for the owners.
